Ballot Initiative Template for mandated Media Analysis Skills Training and 1776 Curriculum as social studies electives for grades 9-12.
The county of ________________________ mandates that all public high schools within the county shall make available, as online social studies electives, the following study materials: Hillsdale College K-12 “1776 Curriculum”, and “Media Analysis Skills Training”. Students will be allowed at least three electives from these materials, during their four years of high school.
The below listed books comprise the courses in Media Analysis Skills Training. These books are to be read and tested upon as the sole projects of the elective classes.
1)Intellectuals and Society, Thomas Sowell. (senior level) 2)The Miracle of Freedom – 7 Tipping Points that Saved the World, Chris & Ted Wintergreen. (freshman-sophomore) 3)Why We Whisper, DeMint & Woodard. (junior-senior)
In addition, as part of MAST, an online philosophy class on logical fallacies will be offered, at the junior-senior level.
The purpose of these classes is: 1)enable the student to become proficient at analyzing propaganda in news stories, film, and literature; to recognize and separate propaganda from the more useful elements in a body of information. 2)allow the student to learn the unique and positive contributions of Western Civilization in general, and of America in particular, to the advancement of liberty and prosperity in the world.
The cost of preparing, implementing and maintaining these classes will be funded by the parents of the students taking the classes, and by private donations. The list of books shall not be altered except by ballot initiative.
Should implementation of this county mandate be prevented by a law or ruling of the state or federal governments, or other official body, then the mandate shall convert to the status of a resolution, and will remain on the books for future implementation until such time as the law or ruling preventing its implementation is reversed. The mandate or resolution shall remain on the books for perpetuity, unless removed by ballot initiative.
The people of ________________ county recognize that forces are afoot in our nation with which the young people of the county will not be prepared to deal with, upon graduation from public school. The people recognize that it is their duty to mandate the necessary instruction in order to rectify this situation.
